MultiChoice Uganda has officially premiered Loving Beyond, a new Ugandan telenovela set within the competitive dynamics of the country’s sugar industry.
The drama, which will air on Pearl Magic Prime for DStv (Channel 148) and GOtv (Channel 303) subscribers, explores a forbidden love story entangled in a longstanding feud between two powerful families—the Lutaayas and the Lules.
Set in Uganda’s sugar belt, the series follows Nakki Lutaaya, played by rising actress Gibril Igale, whose return home triggers a series of events that challenge generations of rivalry and rekindle tensions between the two households. Veteran actors Nuwa Wamala Nnyanzi and Settimba Sempala Charles star as the patriarchs leading the bitter feud, bringing depth and experience to the production.
Rinaldi Jamugisa, PR and Communications Manager at MultiChoice Uganda, emphasized the importance of quality storytelling in elevating Uganda’s film industry.
He noted that Loving Beyond reflects the power of well-packaged stories to compete on an international stage.
“We are delighted to launch Loving Beyond, a show that offers a glimpse into Uganda’s sugar sector through the eyes of Ugandans,” Jamugisa said.
“This series demonstrates that powerful storytelling relies heavily on how we present our narratives. Ensuring quality is essential if our productions are to compete globally.”
Jamugisa also encouraged emerging filmmakers to sharpen their skills, reaffirming MultiChoice Uganda’s commitment to nurturing local talent through initiatives such as the MultiChoice Talent Factory and skilling masterclasses.
He highlighted MultiChoice’s ongoing investment in licensed and commissioned content, noting that Pearl Magic and Pearl Magic Prime now host over 2,500 hours of Ugandan programming, including audience favourites like Sanyu, Prestige, Kampala Crème, Damalie, and Mizigo Express.
Margaret Mathore, Head of Channels at M-Net East Africa, described the new drama as a testament to the company’s commitment to celebrating authentic Ugandan storytelling. She said Loving Beyond explores Uganda’s identity, culture, family dynamics, and love stories while remaining grounded in relatable local experiences.
“We are delighted to unveil yet another truly Ugandan masterpiece,” Mathore said. “By telling stories that reflect who we are, our aim is not only to entertain but to connect with audiences in ways that inspire and resonate.”
The show’s producer, Jerry Sesanga, thanked MultiChoice Uganda for providing a platform for Ugandans to tell genuine, homegrown stories and for supporting young creatives in the industry. He noted that Loving Beyond is the result of deliberate planning, collaboration, and a commitment to authenticity.
“I encourage young filmmakers to embrace collaboration so that we can collectively grow our industry,” he added.
MultiChoice Uganda continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening Uganda’s film sector by consistently launching high-quality local productions on Pearl Magic Prime and Pearl Magic, with the goal of expanding content offerings and delivering relatable Ugandan stories to audiences across the region.
