Outgoing Member of Parliament for Butambala and NUP Vice President for Buganda, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, has been formally charged with terrorism and remanded until February 3, 2026, following his appearance before the Butambala Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Kivumbi was produced before Chief Magistrate Deogratius Ssejjemba, who granted him a one-hour adjournment after the accused requested time to consult his lawyers.
After the adjournment, the court ordered that Kivumbi be remanded as investigations into the matter continue.
Presenting the prosecution’s case, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Racheal Bikhole told court that Kivumbi, together with other suspects still at large, allegedly engaged in acts intended to intimidate the Government of Uganda and the general public for political purposes.
According to the prosecution, the alleged acts occurred between November 11 and 17, 2025, in Kibibi and Gombe areas of Butambala District.
The state further alleges that the suspects planned coordinated attacks targeting the Kibibi and Butambala police stations, as well as offices of the Electoral Commission within the district.
Kivumbi was arrested on Thursday in connection with recent incidents of election-related violence reported in Butambala District.
The case is scheduled to return to court on February 3, 2026, for further mention.
