President Museveni has rejected claims that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government has done little to develop Buganda, describing such assertions as untrue and misleading.
Speaking during a campaign rally in Rubaga division on Monday,Museveni said Buganda has registered tangible progress under NRM leadership.
“It is simply not true that NRM has done little in Buganda. There has been clear progress under NRM,” Museveni told supporters.
The President said residents in Rubaga raised concerns over access to Parish Development Model (PDM) funds, prompting him to remind voters that leadership accountability begins with the electorate.
“Leaders are chosen by the people themselves. As for the Rubaga South MP, I did not choose him; they did. Accountability lies with those who made that choice,” Museveni said, invoking a local proverb, “eyetuze tebamukabira,” to emphasize personal responsibility in leadership choices.
On the long-standing Natete Market land issue, Museveni said government will ensure fairness, noting that people who vacated the land must be compensated.
“Those who vacated the Natete Market land must be compensated fairly,” he said.
Museveni also thanked Pastor Joseph Serwadda Kayanja for prayers offered during the rally, saying the cleric’s biblical reminder of Naaman’s healing carried a message of national renewal.
“I thank Pastor Kayanja for the prayers and his reminder of Naaman’s healing. As we move forward, Uganda will continue on a path of cleansing, renewal and development,” Museveni said.
The President is currently traversing the country as part of his campaign engagements ahead of the January 15 elections, with Buganda remaining a key focus of his message on development, accountability and governance.
Museveni will be in Nansana and Kawempe.
