Waiswa Mufumbiro, Deputy Spokesperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has been hit with fresh charges alleging that he incited party supporters to commit acts of violence against security personnel.
Mufumbiro appeared before Nakawa Grade One Magistrate Frank Nahamya on Wednesday, where he pleaded not guilty.
He was remanded to Luzira Prison until November 4, 2025.
According to the prosecution, on September 4, 2025, within Kampala City, Mufumbiro allegedly encouraged NUP supporters to carry out acts of violence targeting members of Uganda’s security forces.
In a separate but related case, Mufumbiro and seven other NUP members including Edward Ssebufu, also known as Eddie Mutwe, the head of the late presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi’s (Bobi Wine) security team face additional charges at the Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court.
The charges relate to unlawful drilling, conspiracy to commit a felony, and other offenses.
Prosecutors allege that on February 12, 2025, the nine suspects took part in a meeting at NUP offices in Makerere-Kavule, where they conducted unauthorized military-style drills and formations, in breach of Section 45(1)(b) of the Penal Code Act.
The court will hear both cases in the coming weeks as investigations continue.
