The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has granted a non-cash bail of shs500,000 to Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, political activist Ingrid Turinawe, and three others, following their arrest on February 17.

The five, including Nangonzi Faridah, Phionah Nabayinza, and Shadia Namubiru, had been in detention for nearly three weeks.

The group was arrested along Ben Kiwanuka Street while protesting against what they described as the illegal detention of veteran opposition politician Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Their demonstration, which called for the release of Besigye, was forcefully broken up by security operatives.

They were subsequently charged with public nuisance.

The case has been adjourned to April 23, 2025, when the accused are expected to return to court for further proceedings
