Security agencies have arrested 111 suspects in a coordinated crackdown targeting rising crime across Kampala and its surrounding areas.
The intelligence-led operations, conducted on March 23, 2026, followed numerous public complaints about escalating criminal activities, particularly at night.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala said the joint operations involved multiple police divisions working alongside other security agencies.
“In a bid to curb crime, the Kampala Metropolitan Police, in coordination with other security agencies, conducted a series of intelligence-led operations across various parts of the Kampala Metropolitan Area,” Kawala said.
She explained that the operations focused on crime-prone areas linked to robbery, phone snatching, drug abuse, and attacks on pedestrians.
Police at Kira Division arrested 34 suspects during operations in Kito B Cell, Kito A Zone, and Kireku Main Zone. In Entebbe, 46 suspects were arrested in Kawafu and Abaita Ababiri.
At Kajjansi, 17 suspects were picked up from KKB Zone, Ssanyi, Dewey, and Kawali villages, while Jinja Road and Kakiri divisions each arrested seven suspects in separate operations.
“These arrests followed complaints related to social disorder, noise pollution, gambling, and associated crimes such as burglary and theft,” Kawala said.
She added that several exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances, were recovered during the operations.
All suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
