Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have arrested 166 suspects following a series of coordinated operations aimed at fighting rising crime, drug abuse, and street robberies across several suburbs.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, SP Rachael Kawala, the operations were conducted between the night of February 15 and the morning of February 16, 2026, targeting crime hotspots and areas linked to robberies and drug abuse.
In Nsangi Police Division carried out operations in Kyengera, Kazinga, Nabaziza, Wakimese, Masanda, Kinaawa, Kikajjo, Kasenge and Nakasozi, which are known for criminal activity and as a result, 80 suspects were arrested
“The operations targeted identified hotspots, marijuana smoking points, and blackspots associated with simple robberies, paver attacks, drug abuse and other criminal activities. As a result, 80 suspects were arrested,” she stated.
In a similar operation, police in Kajansi raided criminal hideouts in Akright Estate and Kinyarwanda following complaints from residents about phone snatching, burglaries, and the theft of vehicle number plates.
“The operation focused on blackspots and criminal hideouts, including unfinished and abandoned buildings, construction sites and bars operating beyond permitted hours. Fifteen suspects were arrested and charged accordingly,” Kawala said.
Meanwhile, another operation was conducted on the morning of February 16 in Nateete, covering Busega Zone 8, Mosoke Zone, Kabawo, Busega Central C and Kibumbiro, where 71 suspects were arrested.
SP Kawala said the police remain committed to restoring law and order and urged the public to continue sharing information that can help in the fight against crime.
