A total of 8,432 graduands are set to receive degrees and diplomas at the 76th graduation ceremony of Makerere University this week.
The four-day event will take place from February 24 to February 27 at Freedom Square. During the ceremony, the university will confer 185 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, 2,034 Master’s degrees, 6,043 Bachelor’s degrees, 137 postgraduate diplomas, and 33 undergraduate diplomas.
This year’s number of graduates marks a reduction compared to last year, when 13,658 graduands were awarded degrees and diplomas.
The ceremonies will be conducted in phases according to colleges. On February 24, graduands from the Colleges of Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, and related disciplines will be awarded. The February 25 session will see students from the Colleges of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences graduate.
On February 26, the Colleges of Engineering, Computing, and Agriculture will take centre stage, while the ceremony will conclude on February 27 with graduands from the College of Business and Management Sciences and the School of Law.
University management has announced that access to the institution during the four-day period will be restricted to graduands, their parents or guardians, and accredited service providers.
