Parliament has projected a significant increase in its budget over the next five years, rising from shs 917.6 billion in the financial year 2025/26 to shs1.527 trillion in the financial fear 2029/30.
According to the parliament’s strategic plan for the period 2025/26–2029/30, the planned increment is intended to cater for Members of Parliament’s emoluments and associated benefits, including medical insurance, as well as to facilitate committee oversight field activities and public outreach programmes.
The institution also cited the need to fund Uganda’s annual participation in the East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Sports Tournament as part of the budgetary expansion.
The strategic plan outlines Parliament’s priorities for the next five years, focusing on strengthening legislative efficiency, accountability, and public engagement.
The increase, according to the report, is aimed at ensuring that Parliament effectively executes its mandate amid growing national demands and regional obligations
