Pearl Bank has donated water tanks and assorted food items to the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) as part of activities marking the holy month of Ramadan and International Women’s Day celebrations.
March is globally recognised as Women’s Month, with March 8 commemorated as International Women’s Day to honour the contribution of women in society across different stages of life.
This year, the month also coincides with the observance of Ramadan, which will conclude with Eid al-Fitr celebrations on March 20, 2026.
In recognition of the two significant occasions, Pearl Bank, through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme under the education pillar, donated two 10,000-litre water tanks and assorted food items to the university’s Daawa Liaison Community Outreach initiative. The support specifically targeted students residing at the Summayyah and Abu-Mayanja hostels.
Speaking during the handover, Mbale Branch Manager Arafat Zaake said empowering women and improving access to essential services such as clean water is key to community development.
“Women play a central role in the family and society, and when we create an environment where they can thrive, such as providing sustainable access to clean water, we are not only empowering them but enabling them to grow and prosper. The bank is therefore pleased to donate two 10,000-litre water tanks to extend water access,” Zaake said.
He also commended Muslims observing the fasting period during Ramadan, noting that the bank’s community support aims to promote shared prosperity among Ugandans.
“Fasting is not only a sacrifice but a demonstration of commitment to strengthening one’s spiritual journey. As a bank that fosters prosperity for Ugandans, the communities where we operate remain at the centre of what we do. This season, we are providing assorted food items so beneficiaries can celebrate and share the joy of Eid with their families while ensuring access to clean water,” he added.
The Rector of the Islamic University in Uganda, Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, welcomed the donation and expressed appreciation to the bank for supporting the institution.
“We thank Pearl Bank for extending this support. It has come at a time when it is greatly needed. Our students will benefit not only from the Eid token but also from the water tanks, which will ensure a reliable water supply that can be accessed whenever required,” Gyagenda said.
Pearl Bank’s Corporate Social Investment initiatives are guided by its Scale, Impact and Sustainability (SIS) agenda, which focuses on several key areas including humanitarian support, education and sports, social enterprise, environmental protection, and financial literacy.
