A pedestrian has been killed in a crash on the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway, prompting renewed warnings against walking or crossing the highway at unauthorised points.
The fatal incident occurred on Sunday at about KM 3 along the Kajjansi–Busega section, near a sharp bend. The crash involved a Toyota minivan, registration number UA 908DF.
Details surrounding the pedestrian’s death were not immediately available, but the incident has raised fresh concerns about pedestrian safety along the expressway.
In a statement following the crash, Kampala–Entebbe Expressway authorities expressed sadness over the incident and cautioned communities living near the highway against accessing it on foot.
“This tragic incident is a reminder of the serious dangers of attempting to cross or walk along the Expressway,” the statement said.
The authorities said they had recently engaged neighbouring communities and reminded residents not to cross the expressway, cut or tamper with the safety fence, or access the road through unauthorised points.
“We once again urge everyone, especially communities living near the Expressway, to keep pedestrians off the Expressway and use designated crossing points,” they said.
The authorities also appealed to motorists to observe speed limits and remain vigilant, particularly when approaching bends and exit points.
“We also remind all road users to drive within the speed limit, remain alert, and exercise extra caution when approaching bends and exit points,” the statement added.
The latest incident comes amid continued concerns over pedestrian access and road safety along the busy Kampala–Entebbe Expressway, where authorities have repeatedly urged nearby communities to use designated crossing facilities.
“Please do not cross or walk on the Expressway. Let’s all play our part in keeping everyone safe,” the authorities said.
