Plascon Uganda has hailed the Masaza Cup as a powerful platform for nurturing football talent, strengthening unity, and promoting cultural pride across Buganda.
Daniel Kayongo, Head of Marketing at Plascon Uganda, said the tournament continues to play a central role in community engagement and youth development through sport.
“The Masaza Cup remains one of the most powerful platforms for nurturing local football talent, bringing communities together and celebrating the spirit of Buganda,” he said.
He added that Plascon’s continued sponsorship reflects its commitment to the values of unity, resilience and passion for Ugandan sport.
“We are proud to continue standing with the Masaza Cup because it represents the same values we champion through our Twaake initiative: unity, passion, resilience and support for Ugandan sport,” Kayongo said.
He further highlighted the brand’s support for Buddu FC as part of its grassroots football investment.
“Buddu’s participation continues to give us an opportunity to connect more deeply with fans, players and communities through football,” he noted.
Kayongo also commended fans for their strong turnout at the opening match in Mubende.
“We thank the fans who travelled in large numbers to Mubende. Their passion, colour and discipline continue to make the Masaza Cup one of the most vibrant and culturally significant football competitions in the country,” he said.
The 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup kicked off on Saturday at Mubende National Teachers’ College in Buweekula Ssaza with defending champions Buweekula held to a goalless draw by Kyaddondo in the opening fixture.
The match attracted a large crowd of fans, cultural leaders, sponsors and football officials, reflecting the tournament’s continued growth as a major sporting and cultural event.
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, represented His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II at the opening match and praised the discipline and quality of play displayed by both teams.
On the pitch, Kyaddondo controlled the early stages while Buweekula grew stronger in the second half. Kyaddondo captain Trevor Kalule was named Man of the Match for his leadership and defensive performance.
Buweekula, the 2025 champions, are placed in the Bulange Group alongside Kyaddondo, Buddu, Busujju, Buluuli and Buvuma. The tournament is sponsored by Airtel Uganda, Plascon Uganda, Centenary Bank, UNAIDS and Pilsner King.
