Kansai Plascon Uganda will continue its role as a co-sponsor of the 2026 Masaza Cup, maintaining a partnership with the tournament that began in 2023.
The Masaza Cup, now in its 22nd edition, is one of Uganda’s prominent grassroots football competitions, featuring 18 counties under the Buganda Kingdom. The tournament is widely recognized for promoting talent development, community participation, discipline and cultural identity.
The 2026 season is set to begin on Saturday, June 13, 2026, with defending champions Buweekula facing Kyaddondo at NTC Mubende Stadium. The fixture is expected to officially launch another competitive season involving all participating counties.
Buddu FC, which is among the teams associated with Plascon’s sponsorship, will begin its campaign on Sunday, June 21, 2026, against Buluuli at Kitovu Sports Arena.
According to Plascon, the partnership is aimed at supporting grassroots football development and providing opportunities for young players across Buganda. The company says the tournament continues to serve as a platform for talent identification and community engagement.
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, said the Masaza Cup has grown into an important sporting and cultural event that unites communities while nurturing football talent. He noted that several players who have featured in the competition have progressed to professional clubs and the national team.
Mayiga also highlighted the tournament’s broader impact, including youth engagement, economic activity within local communities, and awareness creation on social issues such as HIV/AIDS.
Over the years, the Masaza Cup has developed into a key platform for grassroots football development in Uganda, contributing to both sporting excellence and cultural cohesion within the Kingdom.
The 2026 edition is expected to attract significant public interest as teams compete for regional pride and the championship title.
