PostBank Uganda has reaffirmed its dedication to sustainable development and climate finance leadership during the inaugural National Private Sector Engagement Forum on Climate Finance (NaPSEF 1), held in Kampala.
The forum, held under the theme “Advancing Private Sector Leadership in Climate Finance Mobilization,” brought together key players from government, financial institutions, and the private sector to deliberate on strengthening Uganda’s climate resilience and promoting green economic growth.
PostBank Uganda’s Chief People and Strategy Officer, Doreen A. Muhangazi, addressed the gathering, underscoring the bank’s commitment to driving sustainability across its operations and partnerships.
“In 2022, PostBank embarked on a journey to reposition itself as a sustainable business; hence, we revised our strategy to ensure that sustainability is not just a part of what we do—it is the core of who we are. As a government-owned bank, our purpose is to foster prosperity for Ugandans,” Muhangazi stated.
She emphasized PostBank’s strategic reach across Uganda, particularly in supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), positioning the institution as a key driver of grassroots climate action.
“Our participation in this forum is a statement of intent. We are ready to walk this journey of climate resilience and sustainability. Supporting MSMEs is where sustainability meets profitability—financial institutions can lead climate action while remaining commercially viable.”
Muhangazi applauded the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, and the Bank of Uganda for their leadership in advancing climate finance policy.
She also welcomed the Ministry of Water and Environment’s recent frameworks, calling them vital enablers for private sector engagement.
“Access to finance—particularly patient capital—remains a significant barrier to climate initiatives. PostBank is committed to bridging that gap through inclusive finance models, innovative lending solutions, and strategic partnerships,” she said.
PostBank’s efforts in green finance have been recognized nationally. Last month, the Bank of Uganda commended the institution under the Agricultural Credit Facility (ACF), in acknowledgment of its deliberate alignment with international sustainability standards.
As global discourse around climate finance intensifies, PostBank is positioning itself not only as a contributor but as a thought leader in building a sustainable financial ecosystem that balances people, planet, and prosperity.
In addition to its financing efforts, the bank has leveraged digital innovation to advance its environmental goals. Through Wendi, its mobile wallet platform, PostBank has expanded financial access while minimizing environmental impact.
By promoting paperless transactions and reducing the need for physical branch visits, Wendi is enabling financial inclusion in rural and underserved communities and contributing to a lower carbon footprint.
This digital transition aligns with the bank’s broader sustainability strategy and highlights the potential of technology in addressing environmental challenges while enhancing customer experience.
