A man who was caught stealing from a house on Friday had his hand chopped off by the owner of the house in Nsangi, Wakiso district.
The 17-year old had on the night of May, 8 broken into a house in Mungo A Cell, in Kyengera town council to steal when the owner caught him red handed.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala said the teenager allegedly broke into a resident’s house and tied up household property, including a mattress, before stealing some items.
“It is reported that when the suspect returned to collect the remaining property, he was confronted by the homeowner, who allegedly cut off his hand using a panga,” SP Kawala said .
The suspect, turned victim later fled the from the scene while bleeding but was later found and rushed to hospital.
Police officers who responded to the matter recovered a freshly severed human arm and a blood-stained panga believed to have been used in the incident.
A case of burglary and theft was registered at Kyengera Police Station under CRB 161/26, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
Police also documented the scene, recorded witness statements and recovered exhibits to aid ongoing investigations.
