Three people have died on the spot following a single-vehicle crash on the Mpala section of the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway on Monday morning.
According to a statement from Kampala–Entebbe Expressway management, the accident occurred earlier today when a vehicle traveling from Masaka towards Entebbe International Airport veered off the road.
Officials said the driver is suspected to have dozed off behind the wheel after a long-distance journey, leading to the fatal crash.
“In the morning hours, a single-vehicle crash occurred along the Mpala section of the Expressway. The vehicle was traveling from Masaka towards the Airport when the driver reportedly dozed off due to fatigue after a long-distance journey,” the Expressway management confirmed in a statement.
The crash claimed the lives of three occupants who died instantly at the scene, while another person sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Management of the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway said their Incident Response team quickly responded to the scene and worked together with police to secure the area and manage traffic along the busy highway.
“Our Incident Response team worked closely with police to secure the scene and manage traffic,” the statement added.
Authorities extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victim a quick recovery.
Motorists using the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway have been urged to rest adequately before undertaking long-distance journeys, avoid driving while fatigued, and always observe speed limits to prevent similar accidents.
