A road accident in Katwe Kabatoro Division, Kasese District, has claimed the lives of two people and left at least five others injured, the Rwenzori East Regional Police has confirmed.
The accident occurred in Nyaruzigati Village, Kahokya, Lake Katwe Sub-county, involving a white Isuzu Forward truck, registration number UA 614AG, and an unidentified motorcycle that was reportedly carrying passengers.
According to preliminary police findings, the truck driver was over speeding and failed to negotiate a corner, leading to the deadly crash.
The deceased were identified as Biira Catherine, aged 07 and Jeyles, aged 32
Five other individuals sustained injuries and were rushed to Kagando Hospital in Bwera for medical treatment. The victims identified as; Willy GGeoffrey aged 35, driver, resident of Kidodo Cell, Kamala Richard (20), passenger, resident of Kidodo, Mbusa Matayo (32), resident of Kirembe, Bwambale Godwin (26), passenger, resident of Kaberere Village and Kule Alfred (21), resident of Kirembe
Police say both the truck and the motorcycle have been towed to Kikorongo Police Station for mechanical inspection as investigations into the incident continue.
Speaking on the tragedy, Nelson Tumushime, the Police Spokesperson for Kasese, stated:
“It is alleged that the driver of the said motor vehicle was over speeding and failed to negotiate a corner, thereby causing the tragic incident. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.”
