Construction of the new St. Paul Church of Uganda Nyangilia sanctuary in Koboko District has received a major boost after Uganda Baati Limited commenced roofing works on the facility.

The project launch was marked by a ceremony held at the church premises on Saturday, July 25, 2026, during a thanksgiving and fasting prayer service attended by religious leaders, politicians, Christians and other well-wishers. Uganda Baati also delivered the first batch of roofing materials for the project.

The roofing works, valued at approximately Shs515 million, will involve the supply and installation of ULTRA-SPAN light gauge steel trusses, Versatile roofing sheets and accessories, moving the church closer to completion.

Speaking at the launch, Uganda Baati Site Engineer Daniel Kiseka said the company was honoured to support a project that will serve the community for generations.

“Uganda Baati has been manufacturing steel building solutions since 1964. Today, we do much more than roofing sheets. We provide complete building solutions, including steel trusses like those that will be installed on this church,” Kiseka said.

He said Uganda Baati continues to expand its product range to meet the growing demand for durable and quality construction solutions across the country.

For church leaders, the commencement of roofing works represents a significant milestone in a project that has been sustained through years of fundraising and support from the community.

The Archdeacon of Koboko and Vicar of Nyangilia Parish, Canon Alice Bayo, said the existing church building had become inadequate due to the growing number of worshippers, especially children and young people.

“Our church has become too small, especially with the large number of children and young people who worship here. It is also very hot, especially around the altar. I pray that before the end of this year we shall be worshipping in our new sanctuary,” Bayo said.

She thanked Uganda Baati for its support and appealed to Christians, friends and well-wishers to continue contributing towards the completion of the sanctuary.

“Nothing is too small before God. Whatever you give will go a long way in helping us complete this sanctuary, and God will bless those who support His work,” she said.

Koboko District LC V Chairperson Ashiraf Mambo said the progress of the church project was a result of the generosity and commitment of the local community but noted that more resources would be required to complete the remaining works.

He encouraged residents, the West Nile community and other well-wishers to continue supporting the project through regular contributions.

“This church belongs to all of us. Whether you contribute Shs1,000 or Shs5,000, every contribution matters. If we continue working together, we shall complete this church,” Mambo said.

He also appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to fulfil an earlier pledge towards the project, saying the support would help complete the remaining construction works after the roofing phase.

Once completed, the new sanctuary will provide a larger and more comfortable place of worship for Christians in Nyangilia Parish and surrounding areas.

The church, which is expected to become the second-largest in the Madi-West Nile Diocese, will serve as the parish church and the chapel for the Koboko Archdeaconry headquarters.
