Uganda has stepped up efforts to position itself as a preferred global travel destination following the successful hosting of its first tourism symposium in Copenhagen.
The high-level event, organised by the Uganda Embassy in Denmark under the theme “Building Sustainable Tourism Partnerships and Linkages,” brought together tourism stakeholders, travel trade professionals, media, and strategic partners from across the Nordic region.
Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), tour operators, and hotel owners used the platform to showcase Uganda’s diverse tourism offerings, including wildlife safaris, cultural heritage, adventure tourism, and sustainable travel experiences.
Speaking at the symposium, Uganda Tourism Board Senior Brand Officer Daniel Irunga said the country is focused on building long-term partnerships with Nordic travel stakeholders.
“Destination Uganda is committed to deepening business partnerships with Nordic and Scandinavian tour operators and travel advisors, while positioning the country as a safe, competitive, and sustainable destination,” he said.
The symposium also provided an opportunity for business-to-business engagements, aimed at increasing tourist arrivals from countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland, as well as the Baltic states.
Uganda’s Ambassador to the Nordic and Baltic region, Margaret Otteskov, said the initiative is part of broader efforts to tap into new tourism markets.
“The Nordic market has a strong outbound travel segment with growing interest in authentic, nature-based, and responsible tourism. We are committed to strengthening Uganda’s presence in this region,” she said.
The event attracted key industry players, including representatives from the Uganda Tourism Association, Uganda Hotel Association, and several private tour companies.
The symposium marks a significant step in Uganda’s strategy to expand its tourism footprint and attract high-value travellers from Europe.
