Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has deregistered 90,000 companies that failed to apply for restoration after being struck off the companies register for non-compliance with statutory filing requirements.
In a public notice issued by the Registrar of Companies and dated August 3, 2026, URSB said the affected companies had earlier been struck off the register under Section 130(6) of the Companies Act, Cap. 106, after failing to file annual returns for a period of five years.
According to the notice, the companies were removed from the register following notices issued on July 20, August 14, and August 30, 2023.
“Pursuant to Section 130(6) of the Companies Act, Cap. 106 and by notices dated 20th July 2023, 14th August 2023 and 30th August 2023, the Registrar of Companies struck some companies off the register for failure to file annual returns for a period of five years,” URSB stated.
The Bureau noted that affected companies were granted a one-year window to apply for restoration but many did not take advantage of the opportunity.
“Companies desirous of being restored onto the register were required to apply to the Registrar of Companies to be restored within twelve months from the date they were struck off,” the notice states.
“The Registrar of Companies has deregistered 90,000 companies that failed to apply for restoration,” URSB stated.
The Bureau said the full list of the deregistered companies is available on its website and encouraged members of the public seeking clarification to contact or visit any of its offices across the country.
The mass deregistration is expected to help clean up Uganda’s companies register by removing inactive and non-compliant entities while reinforcing compliance with annual statutory filing obligations under the Companies Act.
