Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has appointed Princess Ruth Komuntale of Tooro Kingdom as a Tourism Ambassador for the United States market, in a move aimed at boosting the country’s visibility abroad.
The announcement was made Wednesday at the King’s Palace in Buziga during a ceremony attended by Tooro Kingdom leaders, UTB officials, private sector players, and invited guests.
Princess Komuntale, who is based in Texas, USA, is in Uganda for the Empango celebrations marking the 30th coronation anniversary of her brother, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. Her new role underscores closer collaboration between UTB and cultural institutions in positioning Uganda as a premier tourism destination.
“I applaud UTB’s leadership in positioning Uganda as the Pearl of Africa, and for recognizing the role of our cultural institutions in this journey,” Princess Komuntale said. “Tooro has exciting milestones such as the Empango celebrations, and we would be honored to work with UTB to position these events as experiences that attract visitors.”
UTB Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa welcomed the appointment, saying Princess Komuntale’s influence and international presence will be critical in promoting Uganda to American audiences. “Her role will highlight Uganda’s culture, heritage, and natural attractions while boosting the country’s appeal as a global destination,” Kagwa said.
The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UTB and the Tooro Kingdom to cement the partnership.
UTB says the appointment is part of its broader strategy to engage diaspora Ugandans and cultural icons in promoting tourism across priority markets.
