Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has deployed its WETEREZeeee community outreach team across the country to engage communities on electricity safety, address power-related challenges, and replace faulty meters at no cost for eligible customers.
As part of the campaign, the team is touring various regions to educate residents on safe electricity use, assist with common service issues, and support customers to normalise their electricity connections.
Power theft remains a significant burden on Uganda’s energy sector, costing the country billions of shillings annually. In 2024, system losses stood at 17.3 per cent, while unsafe and illegal connections resulted in 18 reported fatalities. Engineers warn that such practices not only endanger lives but also destabilise the national grid, increasing the risk of widespread outages and infrastructure damage.
The WETEREZeeee campaign presents a practical opportunity to reverse this trend by promoting legal, safe, and reliable access to electricity for all consumers.
UEDCL is encouraging customers to engage the outreach team to resolve electricity-related concerns, regularise their connections, and, where eligible, benefit from free meter replacements.
The company has also urged the public to normalise their electricity connections by December 31, 2025, to avoid penalties or possible prosecution.
