Nebbi Catholic Diocese Bishop, Rt Rev Constantine Rupiny, has suspended two priests over alleged misconduct, barring them from performing any clerical duties pending further investigation.
The suspension of Rev Fr Salvatore Adraba and Rev Fr George Angala was announced on Saturday, August 2, during Bishop Rupiny’s first ordination ceremony held at the Nebbi Catholic ceremonial grounds.
The announcement came during a significant occasion for the Diocese as Bishop Rupiny presided over the ordination of eight new priests and six deacons.
This marked his first ordination ceremony since assuming office as the 5th Bishop of Nebbi on February 22, 2025.
In his homily, Bishop Rupiny used the platform to deliver a strong message to the newly ordained, urging them to uphold integrity and remain loyal to the teachings of the Church.
He stressed that Catholic priests are not entertainers, but shepherds of faith called to correct doctrinal errors and serve as examples of honesty and humility.
“Do not turn church services into comedy shows,” he cautioned. “Christians respect priests who speak the truth, preach against corruption, and remain untainted by politics and scandal.”
The Bishop also emphasized obedience to Church authority, warning against rebellious behavior among clergy.
He cited incidents where priests have been involved in confrontations with the laity, saying such acts damage the image of the Church.
“It becomes a public scandal when a priest is seen exchanging blows with Christians,” Bishop Rupiny said.
“We must remain committed to the values of our calling.”
The ordination ceremony, attended by hundreds of faithful, was both a moment of celebration and reflection as the Diocese moves to strengthen discipline and doctrinal purity within its ranks.
The two priests, according to the Bishop, are restricted from carrying out any priestly functions both within and outside the Diocese until inquiries into their behavior are concluded.
