In a move set to revolutionise public service payments, Airtel Money has entered a strategic partnership with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), enabling Ugandans to pay taxes and government fees directly from their mobile phones.

Through this collaboration, taxpayers can now settle obligations such as PAYE, VAT, customs duties, renew passports, acquire business and trading licences, or pay university fees—all without queues, paperwork, or unnecessary trips to government offices.

“From today, paying your taxes, renewing your passport, or securing your business licence is as simple as reaching for your phone. No queues. No paperwork. No wasted leave days,” said Japhet Aritho, Managing Director of Airtel Money, at the launch event.

Airtel Money users can complete payments instantly via the MyAirtel App or by dialling 18547#. Once logged in, customers select their payment type, enter the required details, and finalise the transaction within minutes.

Aritho noted Airtel’s commitment to national development, revealing that as of December 2024, Airtel Money had contributed shs133.4 billion in taxes. “We understand first-hand the importance of tax in driving our country’s development, and we are committed to making it easier for every Ugandan to play their part,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the URA Commissioner General, James Odong, Assistant Commissioner, hailed the initiative as a boost to financial inclusion and service efficiency. “In URA, we are leveraging technology to improve the tax process in line with our mission to mobilise national development transparently and efficiently. This partnership with Airtel enhances our ability to provide secure and convenient payment solutions for all taxpayers,” Odong said.

With Airtel’s vast network and innovative digital platforms, this partnership promises to bring government services closer to the people, fostering greater compliance and driving socio-economic growth nationwide.
