The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the party’s presidential flagbearer for the upcoming 2026 general elections.
The endorsement took place at the Kololo Independence Grounds during the opening session of the NRM national delegates conference, where party delegates unanimously supported Museveni. The sitting at Namboole Stadium also confirmed Museveni as the party’s national chairman.
In addition, the conference endorsed Al Hajji Moses Kigongo as the first vice-chairperson of the ruling party, further consolidating the party’s leadership structure ahead of the polls.
President Museveni was accompanied by First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni during the function at Kololo. With the endorsement, he is now the NRM’s official presidential candidate pending nomination by the Electoral Commission. Museveni is expected to address the delegates during the conference.
The national delegates conference will also endorse occupants for other positions within the Central Executive Committee (CEC), the highest organ of the NRM, as the party positions itself for the 2026 general elections.
This development marks a critical step in the ruling party’s preparations for the forthcoming polls, signaling continuity in leadership and organizational cohesion within Uganda’s dominant political party.
