Three men accused of orchestrating a violent land grab in Kasanje Town Council, Wakiso District, have been remanded to prison until December 3, 2025.
Edward Ssempijja, a businessman; Ivan Mirimu, a transport and clearing agent; and Joseph Bbaale, also a businessman, were on Monday arraigned before the Wakiso Chief Magistrates Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working jointly with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the CID.
The trio faces charges of forcible entry, malicious damage to property, and theft.
Prosecution alleges that between October 30 and November 4, 2025, the accused—together with others still at large—mobilised a large group of people and violently descended on land comprised in Busiro Block 514, Plots 6, 10, and 12, which was lawfully occupied by Pontiano Kaweesa Ssengendo of Kamuli Industrial Estates Ltd.
They are accused of destroying tree plantations, coffee trees, and other natural vegetation on the property.
The group allegedly went on to steal nine motors of coffee milling machines valued at approximately UGX 100 million, all belonging to Kamuli Industrial Estates Ltd.
State prosecutors told court that the actions were deliberate and amounted to an attempt to forcefully seize the land.
The accused denied the charges. The magistrate remanded them until December 3, when they are expected to return to court for further mention of the case.
