Seven primary teachers involved in examination malpractice have been sentenced to one year in prison.
These appeared before Chief Magistrate of Mwanga II Mengo Chief Magistrate’s Court, Adams Byarugaba on Friday.
The court heard that the teachers committed the offences during the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) in Kassanda District, where they participated in a wider scheme to manipulate examination processes.
Prosecution told court that the case involves the Director of Nkoba Primary School, who allegedly connived with the District Inspector of Schools in Kassanda to access and cut examination materials before the official start time and share them electronically.
The convictions bring the total number of people convicted in the Kassanda PLE malpractice case to 15 out of the 30 suspects initially charged, with authorities describing the district as the epicenter of examination malpractice during the 2025 PLE.
The magistrate said the custodial sentence should serve as a deterrent to others, stressing the importance of safeguarding the integrity of national examinations.
