The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has lauded PostBank Uganda for its role in promoting financial inclusion and sustainable financial security for communities across the country, particularly for religious leaders and clergy.
The commendation came during a courtesy visit by PostBank leadership to the Provincial Office in Namirembe, a follow-up to an earlier engagement held in August 2024. That initial meeting laid the groundwork for a strategic partnership rooted in shared values and a long-term vision for transforming lives through economic empowerment.
At today’s engagement, PostBank—which is currently transitioning to operate under its new brand name Pearl Bank—and the Church of Uganda reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate on initiatives aimed at bolstering financial security for bishops, clergy, and the broader church community.
According to the two institutions, the partnership is focused on co-developing financial solutions tailored to the unique needs of the clergy, particularly those approaching retirement. The bank has pledged to provide annual seed capital over the next five years to support this vision and other collaborative programs aligned with its mission to foster prosperity for Ugandans.
Martin Mugisha, Executive Director of Operations at PostBank Uganda, reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to its promise.
“The Church has always played a pivotal role in shaping our communities. Last year, the Archbishop shared with us a need—to support the clergy and church structures with sustainable financial solutions. Today, we’re proud to stand here, having taken steps in that direction,” Mugisha said.
Archbishop Kaziimba hailed the partnership as a powerful example of faith-based development and economic stewardship.
“The Church’s mission is to transform lives—spiritually, socially, and economically. This partnership enables us to be not only spiritual leaders but also agents of economic transformation. With support from institutions like PostBank, we are better positioned to secure the dignity and welfare of our clergy,” he said.
“We must be intentional in living the transformation we speak about. Let this partnership continue to bear fruit in our schools, churches, families, and health centres,” the Archbishop added.
The alliance also supports broader goals including financial literacy, better management of church resources, and upliftment of vulnerable communities across Uganda.
PostBank’s rebrand to Pearl Bank is part of a broader strategic shift to reposition the institution as a forward-looking financial partner for everyday Ugandans and institutions rooted in service and community development.
