A heated exchange on social media has erupted between the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, after the general declared that the minister would never again serve in government.
In a post on X on Tuesday night, Gen. Muhoozi accused Baryomunsi of betrayal and said his time in Cabinet was over.
“Baryomunsi, the traitor, will never be a Minister again,” Muhoozi wrote.
The CDF later warned that unless Baryomunsi personally approaches him to make peace, his political future in Cabinet is finished.
“It doesn’t matter. You will not be Minister this time. First come and make peace with me,” Muhoozi added.
Baryomunsi, who appeared unbothered by the remarks, responded that he is self-made and rose to his current position through his own abilities, not through favours from anyone.
“I rose from obscurity to where I am because of my abilities, not favours from anybody. I am self-made. Being a Minister is not necessarily the best thing in life. My horizon is far beyond that. Let’s serve Uganda. Cheers,” Baryomunsi wrote.
The minister later defended himself, warning those attacking him online that they were underestimating him.
“My father trained me to believe in myself. He restrained me from taking alcohol. I am sober 24/7 and focused. He let me free and I don’t suffer from Peter Pan Syndrome. Those attacking me on Twitter/X don’t know the material we, the original Bakiga, are made of. Go slow,” he posted.
The online clash was triggered by comments Baryomunsi made on Saturday while appearing on Capital FM’s Capital Gang political talk show, where he said Gen. Muhoozi does not speak for the government.
Those remarks angered Kasambya County MP and Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General Daudi Kabanda, who accused Baryomunsi on X of repeatedly attacking the CDF and reminded him of what he called Baryomunsi’s “past dirt.”
Baryomunsi hit back, describing Kabanda as “intellectually jaundiced”, a phrase that further inflamed the online confrontation and drew Gen. Muhoozi directly into the exchange.
