Officials from opposition National Unity Platform have picked presidential nomination forms on behalf of the party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The team led by Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru ,the deputy president Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya, Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi and Benjamin Katana the head of legal collected the nomination forms on Monday afternoon at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala.
” Robert Kyagulanyi is the man we trust to usher Ugandans into a new chapter,” Rbongoya said.
“The last time you joined us massively, they rigged, but we are coming with new energy to continue this struggle and push it forward. We hope they are not planning to do the same thing now, but nothing is going to stop us, nothing will derail us.”
The development comes on the backdrop of the number of Ugandans seeking to content for president now having risen to 175 according to the Electoral Commission.
Whereas this big number has picked nomination forms, only a handful of them will return them and officially be nominated as presidential candidates due to some of the strict requirements.
For example, each is required to collect at least 9,800 signatures from at least 98 districts and submit them together with their nomination forms by September 10.
