NUP’s presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, on Monday pledged to uphold justice, fairness, and human rights if voted into government, following a private meeting with Prince Kassim Nakibinge, the titular head of Muslims under the Kibuli faction.
Speaking to the media outside Kibuli Mosque shortly after the meeting, Bobi Wine described the engagement as respectful and deeply meaningful, noting that it was important for political leaders to listen to moral and cultural voices in society.
“Upon our request to visit our elder and our leader, we are humbled to be able to meet him today. We thank you for the honor of allowing us to meet you,” Bobi Wine said.
He said the meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on leadership values, praising Prince Nakibinge for consistently speaking out on issues of justice and human rights.
“In our meeting, we appreciated his moral voice that has always been unequivocal in demanding for fairness, for justice and for defending human rights,” he said.
Bobi Wine said he assured the Muslim leader that NUP remains committed to building a leadership anchored in integrity and respect for all Ugandans.
“We promised him that once we are voted into government, we shall uphold those values. We shall be the leaders that the country has always wanted,” he added.
He also pledged continued respect for Islam and Uganda’s cultural institutions, saying faith and culture must be protected and honoured.
“We pledged our continued respect and honor to Islam and our culture, and we promise to be better leaders,” Bobi Wine said.
He thanked Prince Nakibinge for granting the meeting and offered prayers for his wellbeing.
“Once again, we thank you sir for accepting to meet us, and may God bless you with a long and fruitful life,” he said.
The meeting took place as Bobi Wine headed to Makindye East and Makindye West for campaign rallies, part of NUP’s ongoing nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2026 general elections.
