National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, has accused security agencies of frustrating his campaign in Iganga Municipality, saying he was blocked from addressing supporters despite other candidates being allowed to campaign in the same area.
Bobi Wine alleged that the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Regional Police Commander (RPC), and District Police Commander (DPC) in Iganga deliberately sabotaged his plans.
“Blocked from proceeding to Iganga for our campaigns by the military and police! Although two other presidential candidates have so far campaigned in Iganga Municipality, the RDC, RPC and DPC in Iganga have insisted that we must not campaign in Iganga Municipality,” Kyagulanyi said.
He further claimed that venue owners had been intimidated, forcing his team to settle for Oxford High School playground before security operatives ordered them not to campaign anywhere within the Municipality.
“This morning, these partisan criminals insisted that we must not campaign anywhere in the Municipality. This in addition to the long, dusty roads they’re forcing us to use! Seeing that they came armed to the teeth to injure or kill our people, we have decided to postpone our campaign in Iganga,” he stated.
The NUP leader added that he would petition the Electoral Commission to intervene and ensure a level playing field.
“We hope to engage the Electoral Commission so they make it clear that I and the National Unity Platform are now allowed to campaign in Iganga Municipality while other candidates campaign there!” he said.
However, police dismissed the allegations, insisting that Kyagulanyi was not blocked from campaigning but instead refused to follow agreed security guidelines.
The National Unity Platform claims that presidential candidate, Mr Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has been denied the opportunity to campaign in Iganga Municipality today October,3, 2025. We wish to clarify that they were scheduled to hold rallies in both Mayuge and Iganga districts. The rally in Mayuge was successfully held.”
According to police, Kyagulanyi and his team were instructed to use a designated route leading to Namungale Grounds but allegedly chose an alternative route where they encountered police cut-offs.
“On their way to Iganga, Candidate Sentamu and his group were advised to follow the agreed-upon route to Iganga Municipality and specifically to Namungale Grounds. However, they opted to take an alternative route where they encountered our cut-offs. Consequently, they decided to head to Jinja City and cancelled their campaign in Iganga,” the police statement added.
Police further urged the NUP leader to cooperate with security protocols during campaigns.
“We urge him and his team to adhere to security guidelines to ensure smooth and peaceful campaigns,” police added.
