NUP’s presidential candidate Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, electrified supporters in Terego and Maracha on Thursday with bold promises of a radically different style of governance, declaring that a new Uganda must be built on accountability, dignity, and leadership chosen by the people.
Addressing thousands who lined the roads and gathered at various stopovers, Kyagulanyi said Uganda needs leaders who serve the citizens rather than rule over them.
“In a new Uganda, the president will not be a boss, the president will be a servant,” he told cheering supporters. “In a new Uganda, the president will not be a king.”
He vowed to overhaul the governance structure by eliminating Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and Resident City Commissioners (RCCs), positions he said impose authority on people without their consent.
“When you make me president, I will abolish the RDCs and RCCs. Nobody should govern you unless you voted for him,” Kyagulanyi said, drawing loud applause.
He also pledged better welfare for security personnel, arguing that a professional and respected police force begins with dignified pay.
“In a new Uganda, police officers will be paid well,” he emphasized.
Throughout the day, Kyagulanyi’s convoy caused excitement across the two districts as supporters thronged trading centres, waving NUP symbols and chanting his name. His message, anchored on liberation, dignity, and youth-centered leadership, resonated strongly with the crowds.
At his final rally held at Opi Grounds in Maracha District, Kyagulanyi urged the people of West Nile to use the 2026 vote as a peaceful protest against bad governance.
“Support protest vote because that shall usher in servant leadership,” he said, calling on the electorate to back NUP candidates at all levels if they want leaders who listen and remain accountable.
