After a full day of legal arguments that extended into Monday evening, the High Court has scheduled Thursday, April 30, 2026, for the delivery of its judgment in the case involving the killing of four toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre.
Presiding Judge Alice Komuhangi Khaukha adjourned proceedings at 7:36 p.m., leaving the nation awaiting the court’s final decision in a case that has captured widespread public attention for over two weeks.
The prime suspect, Christopher Okello Onyum, is facing four counts of murder in connection with the deaths of the children on April 2, 2026.
During Monday’s session, the prosecution, led by Jonathan Muwaganya, closed its submissions and urged the court to find Onyum guilty on all four counts. The prosecution argued that the evidence presented is sufficient to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Onyum was responsible for the deaths.
In his defence, Onyum denied intentionally killing the children, telling the court he had no intention of causing their deaths. Although he had earlier indicated plans to call two additional witnesses, he later abandoned this after failing to trace them, leading to the formal closure of the defence case.
The court is expected to deliver its judgment at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
Christopher Okello Onyum, a 34-year-old man who recently returned to Uganda from the United States, is accused of killing four children at the daycare centre. The prosecution alleges that he acted with malice aforethought, resulting in the deaths of Ignatius Sseruyange, Ryan Odeke, Keisha Ogenorwoth Otim, and Gideon Oteku.
