ive suspects are in police custody following an operation that led to the recovery of dozens of computer devices suspected to have been stolen from schools and other institutions within the Kampala Metropolitan area.

The arrests stem from investigations into a break-in at Buwambo Seed Secondary School in Wakiso District, where thieves reportedly made off with four HP server CPUs worth approximately Shs60 million after breaking into the school’s computer laboratory on June 18.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, investigators tracked the movements of the suspects and identified a vehicle believed to have been used during the theft.

“Through our investigations, we impounded motor vehicle registration number UA 771EB, which is suspected to have been used in the commission of the offence. Two suspects were arrested and the information they provided enabled us to expand the investigation,” Owoyesigyire said.

The breakthrough led officers to E-Tower along Kampala Road, where a police operation conducted on June 23 resulted in the recovery of a large quantity of electronic equipment suspected to be stolen property.

“We recovered 15 computer CPUs, nine UPS units and 11 HP monitors, in addition to other computer accessories. We are currently verifying ownership of the recovered items and establishing whether they are connected to other theft cases,” he said.

Police say the recovery suggests the suspects may have been involved in a broader operation targeting institutions with valuable ICT equipment.

Five suspects are currently being held as investigators pursue additional leads and hunt for other individuals believed to be connected to the case.

“We remain committed to recovering all stolen property and ensuring that every person involved is brought to justice,” Owoyesigyire added.
