Construction of the Hoima City Stadium, one of Uganda’s key projects for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has been completed.
Minister of State for Education and Sports Peter Ogwang confirmed the milestone, saying the modern sports facility will be officially opened by President Museveni.
“Hoima City Stadium has been completed. We now await its commissioning by the President,” Ogwang announced.
Built by Turkish construction firm SUMMA at a cost of about shs480 billion ($129 million), the 20,000-seater stadium is expected to give a major boost to Uganda’s readiness to co-host the 2027 AFCON tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
The stadium features a semi-Olympic swimming pool, an indoor arena, outdoor courts, training pitches, and modern dressing rooms, positioning it among the country’s most advanced sports facilities.n
Beyond hosting football, rugby, and athletics events, the new stadium is expected to serve as a multi-purpose hub for community engagement and youth development.
President Museveni is expected to commission it during his Bunyoro sub-region campaign tour.
