Newly elected Kampala Lord Mayor, Eng. Ronald Nsubuga Balimwezo, has pledged to maintain close consultations with his predecessor, Erias Lukwago, describing the outgoing mayor’s experience as vital to his leadership.
Balimwezo made the remarks on Friday night shortly after being declared winner at the Electoral Commission tallying centre at Makerere University Business School (MUBS).
In his victory address, Balimwezo commended Lukwago for his contribution to the city over the past 15 years and committed to building on the foundations laid during his tenure.
“I promise to make the city look different, starting from where my colleague Erias Lukwago stopped. I thank him for the good things he has done for Kampala, and I will always seek advice from him because he has experience that I should tap into,” Balimwezo said.
He further pledged to improve the management and outlook of the capital, assuring residents of his commitment to effective service delivery.
“I assure the people of Kampala that I am going to work hard to ensure that we live in a city that Ugandans deserve,” he added.
Balimwezo secured victory with 141,220 votes.
He was followed by National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Moses Kizito Nsubuga, who garnered 43,615 votes. Former Lord Mayor and PFF candidate Erias Lukwago finished third with 41,915 votes, while Democratic Party (DP) candidate Beatrice Mao came fourth with 2,162 votes.
