In a landmark evening for Uganda’s tech scene, Apple enthusiast community and industry leaders convened at Tehila’s Café and Grill as Sage Buyers, a premier Apple gadgets retailer, hosted an exclusive livestream event of the global iPhone 17 series launch, coinciding with the company’s sixth anniversary.

Dr. Stanley Ssempijja, Team Lead at Sage Buyers, spoke of the event’s dual meaning:

“We are more than just sellers of Apple products; we are a family of technology lovers who believe in quality and reliability.”
He conveyed gratitude for client support and pledged to continue leading Uganda’s Apple experience. Shawn Davis Kawalya, Communications Manager, emphasized that the event wasn’t solely about sales but about reinforcing relationships and celebrating innovation across East Africa—Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda alike.

iPhone 17 Series: What’s New?
Based on official Apple details and major tech reporting:

  • Models unveiled: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the ultra-slim iPhone Air, replacing the previous “Plus” variant. The iPhone Air boasts a record-breaking thickness of just 5.6 mm, crafted with titanium for enhanced durability.

  • Display: The base iPhone 17 is the first non‑Pro model to feature a 6.3‑inch OLED Super Retina XDR display with 120 Hz ProMotion, Ceramic Shield 2, 3,000‑nit peak brightness, and energy-saving lowering to 1 Hz.

  • Processing: Powered by the A19 chip (A19 Pro for Pro and Air models), built on a 3 nm process, delivering enhanced performance and efficiency. The iPhone 17 Pro also offers up to 12 GB RAM.

  • Connectivity: Integrated with Apple’s new N1 networking chip, supporting Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

  • Camera Systems:

    • Rear: iPhone 17 features a 48 MP dual-fusion system (main + ultra-wide), enabling high-res and 2 × optical-quality zoom shots. Pro variants add telephoto lenses—now all 48 MP—some offering up to 8 × optical zoom, vapor-chamber cooling, and horizontal “Camera Plateau” design.

    • Front: Upgraded to an 18 MP square-format sensor with Center Stage, enabling smart framing and dual capture record mode on Pro models—perfect for content creators. Storage: Baseline storage starts at 256 GB (no 128 GB option), up to 512 GB for the base model.

  • Durability & Design: Entire lineup features Ceramic Shield 2, IP68 water resistance, and aluminum or titanium frames for enhanced strength.

Looking Ahead
Sage Buyers’ Kampala livestream marked Uganda’s premiere of these groundbreaking devices, reinforcing their stature as a go-to Apple partner. As launch buzz spreads, the event underlines the growing importance of East Africa in global tech narratives.
