Kampala residents have been urged to store adequate water in preparation for a major water supply interruption scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, July 25, 2025, following maintenance works at the Ggaba Power Station.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Kampala Water said the outage will last from 8:00am to 5:00pm, and will affect a wide range of neighborhoods across the city and its suburbs.
“The Management of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) – Kampala Water regrets to inform its valued customers and the general public that there will be interruptions in water supply tomorrow Friday 25th July, 2025 from 8:00am to 5pm,” the utility said in a statement.
The interruption is due to planned upgrade works and routine maintenance by the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) at the Ggaba Power Station, which powers the Ggaba Water Treatment Plant.
“The works are designed to improve power supply to the plant,” NWSC noted.
The shutdown is expected to cause a total halt in water production, affecting major areas including Ggaba Road, Munyonyo, Buziga, Makindye-Lukuli, Salaama, Kansanga, Nsambya, Muyenga, Kololo, Nakasero, Kampala Central Business District (CBD), Nakawa, Mbuya, Kyambogo, Mutungo, Banda, Ntinda, Naalya, Najjera, Mulago, Makerere, Kamwokya, Gayaza Road, Bwaise, Bombo Road, Rubaga, Nateete, Kyengera, Namasuba, Lubowa, and many others.
In light of the widespread impact, NWSC has advised customers to store enough water and use it sparingly, noting that water restoration may take time as the system stabilizes.
“Customers are therefore advised to store enough water and use it sparingly as it takes time for the system to stabilize after a total plant shutdown,” the Corporation warned.
NWSC expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and reassured the public that the intervention is necessary to ensure long-term reliability and improved service delivery.
“All inconveniences are highly regretted,” the statement concluded.
