The Uganda Law Society has urged members of the legal fraternity and the public to boycott President- Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony set for tomorrow.
, arguing that the January 15 presidential election lacked transparency and credibility.
In a statement released on Monday while in exile, Uganda Law Society President Isaac Ssemakadde said Museveni’s January 15 presidential election lacked transparency and credibility from the Electoral Commission.
He said the Electoral Commission didnt provide detailed presidential election results, including polling station declarations and tally sheets necessary for independent verification.
“We contend that the non-disclosure of a detailed breakdown of the poll results undermines the transparency and accountability standards required by Ugandan law,” Ssemakadde said.
He also blasted the Judiciary for allowing to take part in the forthcoming swearing-in ceremony “t oversee the formal endorsement of an electoral process widely regarded as a crime, orchestrated by the Electoral Commission anf shielded by the military.”
He also took a swipe at the military restrictions at the Kololo independence grounds where the swearing-in ceremony is to take place that he said is a sign of an administration relying heavily on force.
Ssemakadde additionally accused the Judiciary of preparing to legitimise what he described as a flawed electoral process and appealed to lawyers, judicial officers, legislators and law students to avoid participating in the inauguration.
