Police have arrested 30-year-old Isaac Nsubuga from Lubya, Rubaga Division, for allegedly defacing President Museveni’s campaign posters.
A viral video posted on social media on September 22 captured Nsubuga vandalizing the posters in Lubya Parish. Police reviewed the footage, identified the suspect, and launched an operation to arrest him.
During the arrest, Nsubuga was found in possession of some of the defaced posters.
SSP Patrick Onyango, the Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the arrest.
“We acted swiftly after the video went viral. The suspect was apprehended and was found with some of the destroyed posters. Local residents reported that he had vowed to remove all the President’s posters from the area.”
Nsubuga is being charged under Section 80 of the Presidential Elections Act, which criminalizes the destruction, mutilation, or defacement of campaign materials.
The law stipulates a fine of up to 24 currency points or a prison term not exceeding one year, or both.
“Actions like these disrupt the electoral process, and we will not tolerate such behavior. We urge the public to respect the rule of law,” SSP Onyango added.
Nsubuga is currently detained at Old Kampala Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.
