A man has pleaded guilty to charges of defacing President Yoweri Museveni’s campaign posters in Busia District, though he disputed the number of posters involved.
Mustafar Manirabuka, 33 pleaded to the charges after being arraigned before Mustafar Manirabuka appeared before Busia Chief Magistrate Thomas Okoth for charges under Section 80(2) of the Presidential Elections Act.
“It is true I destroyed the posters, but they were four, not five as the prosecution claims,” he told the court.
The prosecution had earlier stated that Manirabuka used a knife to deface five posters on September 22, 2025.
However, explaining his actions, Manirabuka said he was frustrated by a lack of recognition despite his family’s long-standing support for Museveni.
“I tore the posters so that the message could reach the President that there is a family in Busia that has campaigned tirelessly for him over the years without being acknowledged,” he said.
Mr. Okoth remanded Manirabuka to Masafu Government Prison before court finally determines the sentence in the coming days.
