As Uganda’s Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) completes the transition from physical to digital Motor Third-Party (MTP) insurance, Mirai Insurance is intensifying efforts to educate and guide motorists through the change.
The regulator now issues only digital MTP records, leaving some drivers uncertain about compliance and verification. Mirai, a leading motor third-party insurance provider, has positioned itself to ensure the shift is seamless, secure, and accessible for all motorists.
Under the new system, the digital MTP is no longer a paper sticker affixed to a windscreen but an electronic insurance record stored in the IRA database. The move aims to modernise enforcement, eliminate fraud, and align insurance processes with the country’s broader digital public services agenda. Law enforcement officers can now verify coverage in real time.
“Will I be stopped or penalised if I don’t have a physical sticker?” is a common concern. Mirai reassures motorists that once a policy is issued in the IRA system, coverage is instantly visible to authorities. This digital verification provides more reliable proof of insurance and enhances security for drivers and insurers alike.
Security is a major advantage of the digital system. Unlike the old paper stickers, which could be lost or forged, digital records are tamper-proof, offering motorists and insurers stronger protection against fraud.
Recognising that some drivers prefer in-person support, Mirai has combined mobile-friendly purchase and renewal platforms with its nationwide agent network. Over 200 trained agents assist customers with policy purchase, renewal, payment, and verification in the IRA system, providing reassurance for motorists transitioning from the old sticker system.
Mirai’s campaign also focuses on public education, highlighting benefits such as instant issuance, faster renewals, reduced paperwork, enhanced fraud protection, and environmental sustainability. The company actively dispels myths and misinformation, ensuring motorists can make informed decisions.
Joseph Nsubuga, Mirai Insurance Uganda CEO, said: “We are not just selling policies; we are simplifying the transition for motorists. Every driver, whether tech-savvy or not, should be able to access secure, recognised coverage quickly and confidently.”
With competition growing in the digital insurance space, Mirai says its combination of regulatory compliance, trusted systems, comprehensive agent support, and customer-focused education sets it apart. The company has also invested in intuitive online interfaces and step-by-step guidance to ensure motorists in both urban and rural areas can access the digital system.
Mirai urges all drivers to act promptly to avoid gaps in cover. Digital MTP issuance and real-time IRA verification now make insurance compliance faster, safer, and more reliable for all Ugandan motorists.
