Mityana District has recorded the highest number of child abuse and torture cases in Uganda, according to the 2025 Police Annual Crime Report.
The report shows that a total of 710 cases were reported across the country in 2025, down from 787 cases in 2024 — a 9.7% decrease.
Despite this drop, child abuse remains a serious concern, with some areas reporting significantly higher cases than others.
Wamala region, where Mityana is located, registered the highest number of cases at 136, making it the leading region nationwide.
It was followed by KMP North with 56 cases and KMP South with 51.
At the district level, Mityana stood out with 115 reported cases far ahead of other districts.
Busia followed with 25 cases, while Jinja and Kaliro each recorded 21 cases. Mubende registered 16 cases.
Police say the figures highlight persistent challenges in protecting children, especially in certain regions.
The concentration of cases in Wamala, particularly Mityana, points to the need for targeted interventions to address abuse and strengthen child protection systems.
