The Chief Magistrates Court in Mpigi has formally charged and remanded three top district officials, including the LC V Chairperson, over allegations of soliciting bribes from job applicants seeking government employment.
Those charged include, Mr. Martin Ssejjemba , LC V Chairperson, Mpigi District, Mr. Fredrick Kirumira , Chairperson of the Mpigi District Service Commission and Ms.Sarah Nakamoga , the Secretary of the District Service Commission
The trio is accused of demanding money by menaces, with reports indicating that job applicants were required to pay bribes ranging from shs50,000 to shs15 million to secure positions within the district service.
Following the charges, the court ordered that all three be remanded until July 8, 2025, as investigations continue.
Their arrest stems from a presidential directive issued by President Museveni during his Parish Development Model (PDM) monitoring tour in the Greater Mpigi area on June 17, 2025.
During the tour, residents lodged multiple complaints with the President regarding deep-rooted corruption in the district’s recruitment processes.
In response, President Museveni ordered Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke, Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, to take immediate action against those implicated in the alleged sale of government jobs.
Sources close to the investigations reveal that the District Service Commission had become a hub of corrupt practices, with job seekers pressured to make informal payments in exchange for consideration during recruitment.
