The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has directed the Ministry of Finance to immediately mobilize funds for the rehabilitation of the Mityana–Mubende–Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road, describing its current state as deplorable.
Among made the remarks while attending the 29th coronation anniversary of Tooro King, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, where she represented President Museveni.
The Speaker revealed that although the president had offered her a helicopter to facilitate her travel, she opted to use the road instead in order to assess its condition firsthand.
“When His Excellency appointed me to represent him, he offered me his helicopter to facilitate my travel here. However, after learning about the poor condition of the Mityana–Mubende–Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road, I decided to travel by road to see the situation for myself. It is clear that the road urgently needs rehabilitation,” she said.
“I instructed the Minister of Finance, who was present with us, to secure the necessary funds within two weeks so that we can begin work on the road without further delay,” she added.
The Speaker emphasized that government will not tolerate prolonged neglect of critical transport routes, especially those that link different regions of the country.
