President Museveni who is also the national chairman of the National Resistance Movement( NRM) has directed that today’s cabinet sitting be suspended to allow ministers participate in the NRM village elections.

The president has also written to Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among to suspend sitting of the house to allow NRM legislators take part in the exercise.

“I am alerting all NRM members to go to the village centres in their respective local areas by 10am on Tuesday May, 6, 2025 to do two things; Take part in the baraza that will verify the members of the NRM that have been registered in the NRM registers and also take part in the elections of the NRM LC1 flagbearer for chairmanship and also elect the NRM village structures,” Museveni posted on X.

He added, “To ensure that the leaders participate, there will be no Cabinet meeting on Monday, the 5th of May, 2025, and I have also agreed with the Rt Hon Speaker, that there will be no Parliamentary sitting on Tuesday, the 6th of May, 2025.” NRM will on Tuesday elect its party flag bearers for the LCI elections across the country as the country gears up for next year’s elections.”

According to the president, the exercise that will be coordinated by the NRM Electoral Commission, must take place strictly between 10:00am and 2:00pm.

He said he would personally participate in the verification process at Rwakitura vilage in Kiruhura distrcit, as well as the First Lady, Janet Museveni will be in Ireenga village in Ntungamo district.

“I will, however, not line behind any candidate for election because, as chairman of the NRM, I welcome any choice of our members. I cannot and should not, therefore, take sides,” he said.
