President Museveni has urged Members of Parliament from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Buganda Parliamentary Caucus to champion the legitimate interests of Ugandans, particularly in Buganda, which he described as a key beneficiary of the NRM revolution.
The President made the remarks during a high-level meeting held at State House, Entebbe, where he met with the Buganda NRM Parliamentary Caucus to deliberate on critical development and service delivery issues affecting the region and the country at large.
“You, the new leaders, need to defend the legitimate interests of the people of Uganda and Buganda because Buganda is the major beneficiary of the NRM revolution—and anybody who does not see that is an enemy of Buganda,” President Museveni said.
The President noted that Buganda has seen tangible progress under the NRM government, citing improved infrastructure and rapid industrial growth made possible by the peace and stability the party has maintained.
He further praised the MPs for their role in community sensitization and monitoring of government programs but encouraged them to intensify efforts on increasing household incomes through wealth creation.
“Strategically, Buganda is the direct beneficiary of NRM. If all the people get involved in wealth creation, Uganda will be the most developed country in the world,” he added.
President Museveni also highlighted land fragmentation as a pressing issue and called for comprehensive policy solutions to tackle the problem, which he said is hindering agricultural and economic transformation.
During the engagement, Migadde Robert Ndugwa, Chairperson of the NRM Buganda Parliamentary Caucus and MP for Buvuma County, presented a Memorandum of Understanding to the president.
He expressed gratitude for the President’s consistent leadership and affirmed the caucus’s commitment to grassroots mobilization and oversight of government programs in Buganda.
Rose Namayanja, Deputy Secretary General of the NRM, lauded President Museveni for his strategic direction and applauded the caucus for its unity and dedication to delivering on the party’s development agenda.
The meeting concluded with a renewed call for collaboration and strategic focus on wealth creation, service delivery, and land reform to propel Buganda and Uganda towards sustainable development.
