President Museveni is expected to officially commission the new UPDF National Referral Hospital in Mbuya, a state-of-the-art facility that is set to transform healthcare delivery for Uganda’s military personnel and civilians alike.
The ultramodern hospital, which stands as a symbol of the UPDF commitment to the welfare of its members and the public, is equipped with some of the most advanced medical technologies in the region.
From emergency response units to specialised treatment departments, the facility is poised to significantly improve health services across the board.
Among its standout features are a helipad for emergency air evacuations, VIP treatment wings, advanced physiotherapy units, specialised medical blocks, and a robust emergency care infrastructure all aimed at delivering world-class treatment to both military personnel and civilians.
The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, conducted an inspection tour of the hospital on Tuesday.
He was taken through the six-block facility by Prof. Ben Mbonye, who highlighted the hospital’s capabilities and the potential impact it will have on Uganda’s healthcare landscape.
The hospital tour was attended by top officials from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, including Permanent Secretary Rosette Byengoma and Undersecretary Edith Buturo, who praised the facility’s completion and highlighted its potential to serve beyond the military.
Once commissioned by the President, the UPDF National Referral Hospital is expected to become a beacon of medical excellence, reinforcing both the health system and the image of the UPDF as a people-centered institution.
