Contractor SUMMA on Monday officially handed over the Hoima City Stadium to the National Council of Sports (NCS), paving the way for its commissioning by President Museveni on Wednesday.
The handover ceremony, held in Hoima City, was attended by officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ministry of Works and Transport, which supervised the construction of the facility. The NCS received the stadium on behalf of the government as the body mandated to manage national sports infrastructure.
Presiding over the technical handover, Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports Rev. Canon Dr. Duncans Mugumya, representing the Ministry of Education and Sports Permanent Secretary, confirmed the facility’s readiness.
Ministry of Works Commissioner for Public Structures Eng. Edward Ssimbwa presented SUMMA with a certificate of completion, formally marking the end of construction works.
SUMMA Project Manager Murat Altun led officials on a tour of the stadium before handing over completion documents to NCS Board Chairperson Ambrose Tashobya, joined by NCS board members and General Secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel.
Government officials praised President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni, who is also Minister of Education and Sports, for providing full support and funding for the project. They also commended SUMMA for delivering the $129 million multi-sports facility five months ahead of schedule.
Hoima City leaders and other government representatives attended the ceremony, setting the stage for the stadium’s grand opening, which will feature sports activities and celebrations as part of the Christmas festivities.
